Welcome to the Heritage Diaries world: where family history meets fiction. My name is Hanna Kraft and I'd like to introduce you to my great-grandmother's world in Upstate New York during the 1930s. Learn about her life and adventures in my books!
It’s 1930 on Meadowview Farm in Upstate New York. Thirteen-year-old Carol Ayers and her family have lived in New York for just over a year, and it’s been difficult to adjust. Carol begins a diary, recording the changes through the days, weeks, and months. Will Carol learn to consider New York home?
It’s 1931 in the rural countryside of Sprakers, New York. Amid the daily routines of housework and schoolwork, social visits and special events, Carol finds her friendships are not trouble-free—even the ones in her own family. Follow Carol, Margaret, and Pete as their sisterly devotion is tested.
Carol’s Diaries from the 1930s
Carol Ayers, the heroine in the Heritage Diaries, kept a diary from 1930, at 13 years old, until 1999, weeks before her death. One of ten children born into a Midwestern family, Carol recorded the events of Montgomery County New York life, from high school to secret engagements, births and deaths, and everything in between. These precious daily records create the basis for the Heritage Diaries series, and each chapter includes a real diary entry from that time.
Hanna Kraft combines a love of storytelling with her passion for genealogy in her stories, with an aim to reflect the Author of the Greatest Story. When she’s not researching family history, you may occasionally find her playing the banjo, practicing her German, or using a manual typewriter at her home in rural Ohio.
